FACEBOOK & META

  • Meta’s first human rights report is coming out strong in defense of the company’s misinformation strategy. An interesting take to dig your heels in on.
  • In a new test, Facebook is allowing users to have multiple profiles. I feel like people don’t want to even have one Facebook profile so not sure where they’re going with this…

INSTAGRAM

  • Instagram launched its creator marketplace this week on an invite-only basis. How exclusive.
  • The platform is also testing two new updates: a new Notes shelf in DMs and ads on user profiles. The latter sounds AWFUL.
  • The platform also debuted Subscriber Chats this week, as a way for creators to engage with their subscribers.

SNAPCHAT

TWITTER

  • Twitter is testing out custom timelines, with the first one being appropriately about The Bachelorette.
  • Now all Twitter users have the ability to “un-mention” themselves from a tweet.

AR, VR, & AI

  • Meta launched Sphere this week, an AI knowledge tool, that deals with open web content and currently being used to verify citations on Wikipedia.
  • The Magic Leap 2 AR headset will arrive this September, starting at a whopping $3,299. Apparently AR headsets are not for the masses.
  • This kayak VR experience looks awesome!

NOTEWORTHY

  • Kids and teen officially spend more time on TikTok than on YouTube, which is pretty alarming when you consider the privacy concerns at TikTok.
  • In that same vein, TikTok is rolling out content filters and maturity ratings to help make the platform safer for the age group that dominates its user base.
  • Pinterest added new product display options this week, as well as an update to its shopping API.
